For more than 155 years, the TU Munich has offered research and teaching in brewing and beverage technology at the Weihenstephan campus. The combination of a long tradition and a highly modern university environment have made the TUM Weihenstephan a vital hub in beverages and liquid food.
Today, in addition to teaching and research activities, knowledge and technology transfer is becoming increasingly important at universities. Universities are no longer just drivers of innovation but also central nodes of large ecosystems consisting of scientists, industry and startups. Visit us at booth 305/307 in hall C3 and learn more about our offerings in these domains. Take the opportunity to network with colleagues, graduates, students, industry partners and startups in our beer garden.
Weihenstephan has always been the place of origin for many people and their careers. As a result, our graduates accompany the brewing and beverage industry in many areas worldwide. In our study programs, we focus on all the procedural processes of beverage production and explore new approaches and technologies. Learn more about the following degree programs:
Various research projects are taking place on beverages and liquid foods at numerous TUM chairs and institutes. These address our essential core research field of brewing technology and the entire production of beverages and foods in relation to future challenges. Particularly in digitization, there is still much hidden potential that we are looking at in our research across the entire value chain. With the mission "Science for the practice of today and tomorrow", we want to perform research and development at the highest level. We educate students with the claim of a university of excellence.
The IGL has already been taking place at TUM Weihenstephan since 2012. In this program, students can develop their own products and technologies in the field of food and beverages and bring them to a certain level of market readiness. In this context, the students can access a broad network of science and industry experts. In 2022, IGL Batch #8 is already taking place. You can learn more about the IGL, the opportunities for students and the current batch at our booth.
The TUM Venture Lab Food/Agro/Biotech is the central facility for technology transfer, business ideas and startups at TUM Weihenstephan. We foster interdisciplinary innovations in the life sciences via research in genetics and biology, through the challenges in the agricultural sector, to the production and process technology of the food and beverages of the future. In our triangle of food, agtech, and biotech, we serve students, scientists, and startups seeking academic support in these disciplines, the appropriate space and technical infrastructure. Meet startups with their innovations at our booth and learn more about our ecosystem.
The Brewer Cursus is the well-known flagship among our courses. We provide aspiring brewers, production managers, and other employees the necessary knowledge to learn the operations of a brewery and corresponding processes. The certificate program "Brauer Cursus Weihenstephan" offers a comprehensive introduction to all areas of the malting and brewing process: from raw material science to the technology of malt and beer preparation as well as quality control to the bottled product. Two face-to-face modules supplement the online modules at the Weihenstephan research brewery and an excursion to traditional sites. This allows brewing technology to be experienced and understood in all its aspects.
