In 2022, the European Beer Star will enter its 19th round. Interested breweries can register for the important beer competition from April 1 to July 1. This year, the expert tasting will take place on August 4 and 5 at the Doemens Akademie in Gräfelfing. A tasting jury made up of beer experts from all over the world will evaluate the beers submitted from a sensory point of view in a blind tasting. The focus will be on the visual appearance, aroma, and taste of the beers.
In each category, only one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal is awarded. This is what makes the medals at the European Beer Star so special. Only the three best beers in each category receive the coveted precious metal.
The three best beers will be determined in a total of 73 different categories at the European Beer Star 2022. These include internationally known beer types such as Pilsner, wheat beer or India Pale Ale, but also specialties such as wood barrel-aged strong beers, Belgian Dubbel or sour beers will be tasted.
There will also be two completely new categories at European Beer Star 2022: First, there will be space in the future for flavored and so-called Pastry Stouts, which are particularly popular in Eastern Europe as well as in the Baltic States. The second new category pays tribute to the creativity of Italian brewers: Italian Grape Ale (IGA) - a beer style invented in Italy that also uses grapes or grape juice - will now have its own category.
To reflect the rapid development in the non-alcoholic beer market, there will also be four categories for non-alcoholic beers for the first time at European Beer Star 2022.
Following the outstanding response to "Free-Style Beer" last year, the organizers are also looking forward to numerous entries in this special category at the European Beer Star 2022. The idea behind a beer plays a central role. The story behind the beer is included in the judging in this category. In the end, the best overall package of outstanding storytelling and top beer quality wins.
The winning beers will be awarded on Wednesday, September 14 during drinktec in Munich. After two digital award ceremonies, the organizer, the Association of Private Breweries, together with the partners of the European Beer Star, is looking forward to a glamorous and magnificent awards ceremony on site, true to the motto "That's how Stars taste!".
The European Beer Star is organized by the Association of Private Breweries. The world-renowned beer competition is supported by partners drinktec, BarthHaas, BrauBeviale, Brauwelt, Doemens, Kalea, MicroMatic, Quehenberger Logistics, Rastal and Schulz.
